The Donaldsonville Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed a special guest, retired Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, to the 2014 awards banquet at the newly-renovated Columns on the River.
Mayor Leroy Sullivan and members of the Donaldsonville City Council thanked Honoré for his visit, and presented him with a key to the city. Councilmen in attendance were Lauthaught Delaney, Reginald Francis, and Raymond Aucoin.
The Chamber named CF Industries as its Business of the Year.
Manager Lou Frey accepted the honor for the nitrogen fertilizer plant, which supplies mainly to Midwest corn farmers.
The Donaldsonville plant is among five in the United States with four others abroad.
“We take a lot of pride in being in Donaldsonville, and we try to hire local people,” Frey said.
Of the 500 employees, half are from Ascension Parish and a quarter are from Assumption Parish, according to Frey.
Also, The Chamber presented a $1,000 donation to the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.
Tamiko Stroud and Katilyn Williams of the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council led the Pledge of Allegiance to open the ceremony.
Donaldsonville native Don Bergeron and his crew catered the evening's meal.
