The Donaldsonville Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council presented an annual report to the Mayor and City Council during the regular meeting Tuesday night.
MYAC President Tamiko Stroud and Commissioners Paige Joseph, Jalon Chatman, and Lawrence Brown III outlined the numerous activities of the 2014-15 term, which included community service, Teen Town Hall meetings, radio and television appearances, the ACT exam 30-plus score club inductees, and presentations involving local business and community leaders.
The service-oriented group includes high school students from both Ascension Catholic and Donaldsonville High.
Volunteer Coordinator Tamiko Francis Garrison said the Council will add new members from the two schools at the start of the school year.
Also, they are planning a field trip to Washington, D.C. during the first week of March, among other scheduled activities.
Council Chairman Raymond Aucoin lauded the group for their successful year back as an axillary of city government.
The Council began in 1996, but was dormant for several years. In April 2014, Mayor Sullivan and Garrison worked to revitalize the youth group.
The Council's meetings will be held every first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m.-noon in the Council Chambers at City Hall, beginning in September.
