Six Donaldsonville students will receive a new scholarship distributed by the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council.
Tamiko Francis Garrison, who organizes the city's MYAC, told the City Council Tuesday night about the groups upcoming plans, including the scholarships.
A red-carpet event is scheduled for May 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Lemann Memorial Center to raise funds for the scholarships, she said.
The six scholarships will correspond to each of the city's Council districts. One will be at-large, representing the Mayor.
Garrison said each scholarship would be either $100 or $200, depending on the amount of money raised.
Any senior would be eligible. Students will turn in essays and two letters of recommendation. The MYAC will decide on the recipients.
The fundraising event will be a formal affair with tickets going for $35. Some of the funds will go to a convention trip the group intends on taking later this year.
Also, the MYAC will host a "Good Credit" workshop during the March meeting at City Hall.
Steve West and David Grier will be guest speakers for the meeting, set for March 5 at 6 p.m.
In the coming months, the MYAC will host a music and arts festival.
With more details to come on the event, it has been slated for July 25 at the Lemann Memorial Center.
