The Donaldsonville City Council approved the appointment of Brent Landry as interim Councilman for District 5 during a special meeting held Tuesday, May 31, 2016.

Landry succeeds the late Emile Spano, who passed away last week at age 68.

Spano had served on the Council since 2007. A graduate of Ascension Catholic and Nicholls State University, Spano  served as Chief Deputy Assessor for Ascension Parish for 22 years and as Assessor for nine months.

The regular meeting of the Council was postponed a week later, due to the unexpected passing. Prior to the regular meeting, the Council held a special meeting to fill the vacancy.

The Council voted unanimously to appoint Landry, who was then sworn-in by City Attorney Charles Long.
